Here's the punk rock news that you've been cravin', and it's time to get down to business now that America's ceremony honoring violence against women (or as it's more commonly referred to: the Super Bowl) is finally out of the way. Hey everyone. Things are starting to get exciting. People are starting to get nervous. Shoes are getting polished, hair is getting dyed, and balls are getting drilled. Yes everyone, it’s bowling season. The holiest of all seasons. It’s an opportunity for punk rockers to compete at the one sport they can actually pull off. Hurling 14 pound balls down an alley while on ludes is the perfect punk rock afternoon. With team names like the Pin Ladens, the Britney Spares, and the Labor Strikes, how can we not have a good time?
Onto other exciting news, members of Anti Flag, Rise Against, and Faith No More went to the Iowa debates on behalf of Punk Voter. It was crazy. Tim and #2 actually got to talk to John Kerry and Dennis Kucinich (see pics here: www.punkvoter.com/photos/) and the Governor of Iowa came to the Punk Voter press conference. Washington is starting to pay attention to us, which brings me to my lame request: JOIN US! The more people that sign up at www.punkvoter.com, the more seriously we will be taken. There are over 400,000 people on the Fat mailing list, but only 50,000 on Punk Voter. If these candidates know that we have a few hundred thousand members, they will meet with us and listen to us. Even if you’re not old enough to vote doesn’t mean you can’t be part of our movement. Sooner or later you WILL be old enough and that counts. So please visit the site, check it out, and sign up. They're going to be the 5th volume in our Live In A Dive series and quite possibly the best. 26 songs of the crustiest punk hits all on an enhanced CD with live footage and interviews. *** FAT AND PUNK VOTER HOST HUGE SHOWCASE! Texas will never be the same cuz Fat Wreck Chords and Punk Voter are teaming up to present the "Rock Against Bush" SXSW showcase at Emo's in Austin on March 19th. Bands who have offered themselves up as sacrifices are: NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Dillinger Four, Against Me!, The Lawrence Arms, and comedian David Cross...holy hot damn! The show will be emceed by the great Jello Biafra; and the bands will be holding a chili cook-off and cattle roping expo prior to the show. Finally Matt Skiba will have a practical use for his studded vinyl chaps.
**** PUNKVOTER.COM IS GETTING SERIOUS! Seriously big that is, and like Fatty said, punk rockers had a presence at the Iowa Caucus and got some major exposure from the political press. Punk Voter is planning a big ad campaign, benefit shows, and a tour in April with NOFX and Alkaline Trio. People are starting to hear our issues and take us punks seriously for a change, and you can help by signing up at the site, spreading the word, or even make a donation to the cause. ******* ROCK AGAINST BUSH VOL. I SET FOR APRIL RELEASE! This is top secret shit, which is why we buried it under all that nonsense about Keith and Leon. Clever, no? Our biggest release of the year is coming in the form of a 26 (and maybe 27, depending on if Toby Keith gets back to us) song compilation set to benefit Punk Voter. At last count, and bear in mind none of us can count, there were around 18 unreleased songs from bands like Anti-Flag, NOFX, Ministry, Alkaline Trio, Strung Out, Ataris, Against Me!, and a lot more. Even Bush voters will be buying this thing! Woohoo, good one...
******** MORE? WE CAN ALL HAVE MORE! Here's what else we got planned for this year: new studio records from bands like Propagandhi, Strung Out, Dillinger Four, Bracket, and maybe even Wizo. While there will also be some live records from the almighty Swingin' Utters and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Yes, this isn't a big release schedule, but that doesn't necessarily mean we need your demo just yet. Remember softball season is coming and Floyd has got us in the gym 5 days a week for that shit.
